About Aoi Project:
Derived from the Japanese word ao (青), aoı [ao-ee] refers to the word representing both blue and green in ancient Japanese.
Aoi strive to be a green brand inspired by our blue planet. They create beautiful contemporary women’s and men’s clothing and accessories being unisex in design. They also make simple and well-made home textiles and accessories and stock a small line of vintage pottery.
Made in Norway from natural fabrics such as organic cotton, hemp and linen, Aoi have long-lasting design and sustainability at the heart of their brand. Garments are made to order or small batch to reduce waste.
Fair Pay and Good Working Conditions:
Every Aoi piece is locally made in Norway by the founder. Fabrics are sourced from factories that have a mixture of GOTS (organic textile standard which includes labour standards), Fair Trade (Fair pay and working conditions standard) and OEKO-TEX (protection from harmful substances in textile production) standards.
Sustainable / Organic Materials:
Aoi project garments are made with materials and fibres that are natural and biodegradable such as organic cotton, linen and hemp.
Linen and hemp fabrics are sourced from factories in the EU that are GOTS or OEKO-TEX certified. The organic cotton is sourced from a certified Fair Trade and GOTS factory in Asia.
Animal Welfare:
Aoi produce some wool items, using locally sourced Norwegian wool which is mulesing-free.
Packaging:
Tags are made from recycled paper and biodegradable fibre. Orders are wrapped in recycled and craft paper packaging with natural rubber / paper tape and hemp ribbon.
Social Responsibility:
An honest representation of their products in image and text, garments are well-made and designed to last, transparent pricing and low participation in sales.
